【原文】凡人之生也，天出其精，地出其形，合此以为人。和乃生，不和不生。察和之道，其精不见，其征不丑。平正擅匈，论治在心。此以长寿。忿怒之失度，乃为之图。节其五欲，去其二凶，不喜不怒，平正擅匈。《内业》

【汉解】人的生命，是由天给他精气，地给他形体，两者相结合而成为人。两者调和则有生命，不和就没有生命。考察“和”的规律，它的真实情况是不可能看得见的，它表现的征象是不能类比的。但能使平和中正占据胸怀，融化在心里，就是长寿的来源。忿怒过度了，应该设法消除。节制那五种情欲：耳、目、口、鼻、心、除去那两种凶事：喜、怒，不喜不怒，平和中正就可以占据胸怀了。

【英译】It is ever so that in man’s life, Heaven produces his vital essence. Earth produce his form. These combine in order to produce man. When they are in harmony, there is life. Without it , there is no life. If one searches for the way to it, its inner reality cannot be seen; its outward manifestation cannot be classified.  However, when equanimity and good judgment fill the breast and engulf the mind, this brings long life. If joy and anger are excessive, deal with them in a planned manner. Moderate the five desires and get rid of the two violent emotions. Be neither joyous nor angry, then equanimity and good judgment will fill your breast.
